Carousel on Fifth

Carousel on Fifth

Manhattan’s 57th and 5th morphs into an amusement park with Tiffany’s holiday windows  which are all about an old school carousel. The protruding merry-go-round changes the façade of the building  as well as midtown’s landscape and is a must-see. When inside, stroll down the carpeted rooms and look at all the sparkling goodies There  must be a person in your life who deserves a little twinkle from Tiffany’s or just window shop the new “locks” collection. Have you seen their handbags for men and women? My favorite is the satin clutches in candy colors. Afterwards go to Berdorg’s BG restaurant...

Paco Rabanne’s Lastest Hire

Paco Rabanne’s Lastest Hire

The Paco Rabanne label has had its peaks and valleys since its chain mail days in the 1960’s including a few years in the mid-2000’s with the designer, Patrick Robinson which was a distinct high point. The latest showman calling the shots is the uber-creative Indian designer, Manish Arora. I met Manish a few years ago in Paris when he designed for LaCroix in 2008. That year he created the infamous carousel dress. A dress that had a merry-go-round circling the model’s waist; not printed on fabric or some kind of 3D stationary cut-out but an actual mechanical miniature amusement...

If your dogs are barking, wear HUSH PUPPIES

If your dogs are barking, wear HUSH PUPPIES

In 1958 Hush Puppies were born and became the groovy shoe for the beat generation. In the years since they moved to comfort shoe limbo.  The shoes had a mini resergance in the mid nineties when Anna Sui adorned her runway models in neon bright puppies. In the spirit of the what is old is new again, they were due for a revival as all good brands  who are over a certain age.  As you can guess, they “went to their archives” to research designs from their former years of  glory and came up with the current collection. Have you heard...

Calypso St Barth’s Accessory Shop / Nolita

When you dream about your beach getaway you may imagine yourself strolling along the surf in a diaphanous dress with a hint of the hem wet from the salt water. Vacations are about dreams and testing unseen sides of self and Calypso St Barth’s is a shop that can transport to a vacation state of mind. Friday they added an exclusive accessory shop to their roster of 29 worldwide. That...

Chanel’s Booties

Chanel’s Booties

Although Chanel’s spring show at the Grand Palais in Paris was set  against a stage of underwater creatures, the shoes were anything but sea-worthy. The footwear added a contrary juxtaposition to the knee-length skirts, dresses and suits. It would be  easy to match an insanely wacky shoe with towering heel that we are so accustomed to seeing; calculated and boring. Karl wants us to connect the dots and draw our own conclusions as all good art does. The ankle bootie’s sharp graphic lines give the clothing a rockabilly edge. Both heels  have a circularly carved low heel. Is it a sea urchin or...

Trina Turk’s Mediterranean Sea

Trina Turk’s Mediterranean Sea

For Spring  Tina Turk goes to the blue waters of the Mediterranean for inspiration with pops of orange and  lemon yellow for accents. Super cute. Spring also marks the first season for Mr Turk designed by her husband, who is also a fashion photographer.Trina doesn’t stop her empire at clothing. It is a full lifestyle brand with jewelry, bags, hats, and home which they call “residential”. I worked with Trina and Jonathan  on the  New York  editor’s preview. Fun Fact:most of the collection is produced right here in the USA, in Los Angeles. Go Trina!

Piazza Sempione

Piazza Sempione

To celebrate their 20th anniversary in business, Italy’s Piazza Sempione, worked with Milan’s fashion darlings, Aquilano and Rimondi to bump up the already successful brand’s hip factor. The capsule collection for Spring 2012 includes a quirky line drawing print, accordion pleated jackets and  the duo’s  signature piping which gives a molded and structured quality to clothing. Take a look..
