Just back from Geneva where the uber-elite watch releases for 2014 are presented to press and buyers. One of the highlights, Cartier. I sat at the elegant “booth” while white gloved French experts presented artful time machines to wide-eyed magazine editors. There was toucans fashioned with rose petals, diamond encrusted panthers and detatchable jeweled alligators along with the highly revered tourbillon watch. After all these years I still can’t tell you exactly what it does but it elevates the price to the stratosphere. These watches are meant to cause excitement. They are the pinacle of time-piece design and style and await a very wealthy buyer to take it home. I am going to stick to saving for the quintessential classic; the tank-anglese.
