My New Favorite Designer: Reed Krakoff

As a fashion editor you fall in love with a runway collection for different reasons. You can be swept away by the theatre of it all; the music, the lighting the models, the event itself. A designer may speak to you by expressing a philosophy you believe in.   Alexander McQueen’s shows were a mix of exquisite theatre and high art, but I never did see anything applicable for real life. Daphne Guiness’s life, but not mine.

I have always fell in love a fashion show that presents clothing that I can put on and be transformed. Clothing is the ultimate shape shifter and mood lifter.

That is the case with my new favorite designer who brought Coach its current prosperity, Reed Krakoff. There is something about his androgenous look in luxe fabrics that is in sync with my current mood. I am tired of fem and girly; I want the minimalism of the 90’s Calvin Klein with a bit of post-punk edge of Helmut Lang from the same era .

I have purchased  pieces from Reed Krakoff at his sample sale and love everything . He designs shoes which are cool and edgy but there is acknowledgment that a shoes are made for feet and feet must walk.  I love my cropped tobacco colored blazer and my black cardigan with its transparent sleeves. My peachy pink stilettos that come up to my ankle and ties with a bow are divine. And then there is that silver geometric patterned shift dress…

Here are a few things I saw at the press preview for fall that I  dream about buying. You may see them for sale at one of the Saks Fifth Ave in Sept.
